The sisters of Notre Dame came to Ilirska Bistrica in 1888 and immediately created a network of schools and other educational edifices. The Mother Theresa Monastery dedicated to the spirit of Blessed Theresa Gerhardinger was extensively renovated in 2006 and now hosts religious congregations. A chapel, large hall and rooms for tired pilgrims welcome anyone who wishes to be closer to God.
