The village of Podtabor hides under a mighty precipice above which traces of an Iron Age hillfort are still visible. You can quench your thirst at the bountiful springs of Podstenjšek just below the sheer limestone wall. Another type of thirst can be handled with the fruits of one of the oldest grape vines in the region, growing at the Brus homestead. Mesolithic hunters and gatherers established a camp under the Pod Črmukljo overhang, and the ruins of the old Podgrad fort in front of the shallow cave still remind us of the times past.

A picturesque trail leads through the tunnel and up to Šilentabor. At the top of the ridge, you can take in the famous view of Slavnik, Vremščica, Brkini and the Reka Valley.
