The fame of the Kalec Castle is mainly attributed to the life of one of its owners, namely the composer, politician and Slovenian patriot Miroslav Vilhar. A huge cultural congregation of Slovene people happened here in 1869, demanding a united Slovenia under the Austrian-Hungarian Habsburg Monarchy. After the Great War, the neglected mansion began to crumble and deteriorate. Today, one of the towers is renovated, with an ancient tree-lined avenue of linden and chestnut trees leading to the ruined beauty.
