The founding year of the School in Prem is 1826, when a lively and knowledgeable priest, Peter Aleš, served in Prem. He inspired the people of Prem and others the surrounding area for many things, he taught them fruit growing and winemaking, and he also convinced the locals of the need for a school.
In 1871, the teacher Filip Kette came to Prem, with his young wife Ana Valenčič, Jejčkova from Trnovo. Four children were born to them in Prem. The third child was Dragotin Kette.
An exhibition titled "I will not give up: The life of Dragotin Kette" is also set up in the former School.
Dragotin Kette (1876–1899) is, along with Ivan Cankar, Josip Murn and Oton Župančič, the most important representative of Slovenian modernism. In his only twenty-three years of life, he has traveled an extremely dynamic path. He had a cheerful and mischievous personality, full of optimism and was eager for knowledge. Despite the many obstacles that life set for him, he did not give up, but instead aimed at realizing his clearly defined goal: to become a good poet and writer.
