Perched upon a rock above Ilirska Bistrica, the castle was most probably built in the 13^th century. The knights of Bistrica, vassals of Counts of Duino, ruled here, with the Walsees and finally the Habsburgs following suit. Only scarce collapsed walls remain of this imposing fortress and one can hardly perceive the subtle late medieval architectural details, but the history of the place and the views from the plateau are well worth a short climb!
