The hut stands just below the Kozlek peak on the southern edge of the Snežnik plateau, which rises steeply above the upper valley of the Reka river. Kozlek is the highest peak of this edge. The hut was built by mountaineers from the Podgora Mountaineering Club. Most of the work and transport of the material was done by volunteers who were all eager to see the hut open on 1 May 1994.

The hut is open on Sundays from May 1 to October 15. The stove-heated restaurant accommodates 16 people, and there are 20 additional seats in front of the hut. The dormitories provide space for ten people. There is running water, and electricity is provided by a generator.
