The hill of Ahac rises right above Ilirska Bistrica. The strategically dominating high point was first settled in early Bronze Age, and a huge complex of hillforts, settlements, graveyards and extensive defensive wall can still be discerned in the woods. Walking around the remains of a veritable city that bustled some 4.000 years ago is a unique experience. There is the ruined church of St Agathium on the top of Ahac, guarding a spring that reputedly has healing properties. Another good reason to climb up here!
