Viljem Kindler planted the park with 110 different plant species, 45 species of conifers and 65 deciduous trees, including exotic ones, which the locals did not believe would be preserved in the Bistrica climate. There are many walking paths in the park with bridges across a pond where white and pink water lilies bloom in the summer.

The rivers Bistrica and Sušec flow through the northwestern part of the park. In the first half of the 19th century they powered many sawmills and mills in the oldest part of the town, called Guranji kraj.
