The massif of Mount Snežnik is so huge it controls the weather. As a barrier between Inner Carniola and the coast of Adriatic, its southern expanses receive huge amounts of rainfall, while deep precipitous valleys hold the cold air long into the summer. The summit of the mountain is a protected botanical reserve – a true hotspot of high-altitude meadows full of rare plants and flowers. The deep forests below are home to brown bears, wolves, lynxes, deer and other animals, and are crisscrossed with hiking trails.
